Project Search - Sharod

Project Search - Sharod working at Backus Hospital.

Through his participation in the Project SEARCH program at Backus Hospital, Sharod committed to a nine-month internship focused on building practical job skills, workplace readiness, and confidence. During this time, he gained hands-on experience in a variety of roles, learning the importance of routine, teamwork, and accountability in a professional healthcare setting. With consistent support and determination, he developed the skills necessary to transition from training to employment.

Upon completing the program, he was hired by Windham Hospital's Environmental Services department, where he works as a housekeeper for 20–25 hours per week. In his role, he takes pride in maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients and staff, demonstrating reliability, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic. His further dedication to learning has led him to take on the majority of floor-cleaning tasks and master the various floor-care machines, responsibilities that other staff typically do not assume. His dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed. Sharod was named Employee of the Month for March. His journey reflects the meaningful impact of structured internship programs and the value of creating inclusive employment opportunities that lead to long-term success.
