Jacob’s journey is a powerful reminder of what determination and opportunity can achieve. Starting as a dedicated volunteer at local thrift stores, he built valuable skills organizing merchandise and supporting daily operations. He then took the next step with a working interview at Fresh Market, where his reliability and willingness to help stood out every day as he provided valuable assistance with stocking grocery items and organizing store shelves throughout the store, keeping the parking lot free of shopping carts, filling candy containers, and doing anything else that was asked of him without hesitation.

Through hard work and perseverance, Jacob reached an incredible milestone, earning permanent employment at the store, as one of the first to do so after completing a work-interview program. His accomplishment not only reflects his commitment but also the impact of creating inclusive opportunities in the workplace. Jacob’s story inspires us all to recognize potential, invest in growth, and celebrate every success along the way.

Jacob was involved with only group-supported employment and was looking for more independent work opportunities. By taking part in UCP’s Individualized Day Vocational and Supported Employment programs, he was able to find volunteering opportunities that helped build his skill set and participate in a work trial that helped him reach his goal of independent employment.
