Train Travel

The interns recently set out to learn how to travel independently by train, turning the experience into a hands-on lesson in planning, navigation, budgeting, and community exploration. They learned how to purchase Amtrak tickets online, read train schedules, and use GPS to determine how long it would take to travel from Backus to the New London Train Station while ensuring they arrived in time to board.

Using Google Maps, the interns explored the area surrounding the station and researched local restaurants before deciding on Mystic Pizza for lunch. They reviewed menus ahead of time to practice budgeting for their meal, including calculating enough money for both the bill and tip. After lunch, the group enjoyed exploring the downtown shops and experiencing all the area had to offer.
