Featured in the Connecticut Family Magazine this fall, was Santina and her son, Gabriel. This beautiful young family shared the financial hardships that all families with children with special needs face. Santina was also able to share the incredible journey that she and Gabriel have begun. From state agencies to school systems, even local fire departments, Santina and Gabriel have learned that it never hurts to ask when she recounted the day that she called her local fire department to inquire about any activities they could assist with for Gabriel’s birthday. The Old Saybrook Fire Department stepped up and saved the day, coming to his home and giving him a once in a lifetime chance to ride in a fire truck!

Although every day has something special in it, Santina is no stranger to the battles that parents and families face within in CT for services, funding and assistance. Read more about their incredible journey by following the link below.

UCP’s Support Group is searching for a new name!

Can you help us out?

Currently, the Support Group is known as the Disability Support Group but we feel this is limited and labeling so we are looking to change our name. The group members discussed at the holiday luncheon on December 14th making a name change. Each of the current members will have an opportunity to make a suggestion at the group meeting on January 24th, 2015. Ideally a name that describes the members, the type of group we are and something more current to the times.

Do you have a suggestion for a name change?

Email it to staber@ucpect.org to be presented to the group. We are looking forward to having a name to be proud of!

December Support Group lunch at Filomena’s

UCP’s Support Group enjoyed an amazing lunch out together at Filomena’s in Waterford. We celebrated the holiday season while sharing laughter and great food! Thank you to Filomena’s owner, Mike Buscetto for allowing the group to spread out comfortably in the larger event room and for the amazing servers that we had! We had a wonderful time and we will definitely be back!20141214_125358 20141214_125351

UCP of Eastern Connecticut’s Executive Director Jennifer Keatley presented Michelle Vicino from Sprint with a well deserved Community Service Award on November 22, 2014.

Michelle Vicino, a Customer Relationship Manager from Sprint, came to UCP ECT on November 22nd to give an informative presentation on Sprint Relay Services in Connecticut for the Support Group. Services that assist individuals that live in Connecticut maximize and enjoy daily activities like calling family or friends on the phone! Support Group members were able to ask questions and get direct information about which services they could use. Thank you, Michelle, for a wonderful presentation!
